  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil For frying.

For the sauce

  • 1/4 cup orange juice Freshly squeezed is best.
  • 1/4 cup sugar Balances the tanginess of the orange juice.
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce Provides umami flavor.
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar Adds acidity.
  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper Adds a hint of heat.

For garnish

  • to taste green onions Adds freshness to the dish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Start by cutting the chicken breast into bite-sized pieces for even cooking and crispiness.
  • In a large bowl, mix together cornstarch, flour, salt, and black pepper. This will be the coating for the chicken.
  • Toss each piece of chicken in the flour mixture until fully coated.

Cooking

  • Heat vegetable oil over medium heat in a large frying pan.
  • Once the oil is hot, add chicken pieces in batches, frying them until golden brown and crispy, about 5-6 minutes.

Making the Sauce

  • In a separate bowl, mix orange juice, sugar, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and crushed red pepper.
  • Remove the fried chicken and let it drain on paper towels.
  • In the same skillet, pour the orange sauce mixture and let it simmer until it thickens slightly.
  • Add the fried chicken back to the skillet and toss until well-coated in the sauce.

Serving

  • Serve the Orange Chicken hot, garnished with thin slices of green onions.

Notes

For extra crispiness, consider double-dredging the chicken. Adjust sugar for personal sweetness preference. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days, and reheat in the oven or microwave.
