Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour This is the base of your dough, providing the structure we need.
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast This helps the dough rise just right, giving it that lovely, fluffy texture.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances the flavor of your dough!
  • 3/4 cup warm water Activates the yeast, so make sure it’s not too hot or cold.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Adds richness and helps keep the dough soft.

Filling Ingredients

  • 1 cup pepperoni slices The star of our Stromboli! Use turkey pepperoni for a lighter option.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Oozing, melty goodness—never have too much cheese!
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning Gives our Stromboli that classic Italian flavor profile.
  • 1 each egg (for egg wash) Gives the crust a beautiful golden color when it’s baked.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, instant yeast, and salt. Gradually add in the warm water and olive oil. Use a wooden spoon or your hands to form a cohesive dough.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  • While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air. Then, roll it out into a rectangle, around 1/4 inch thick.
  • Sprinkle the pepperoni slices evenly over the dough, followed by the shredded mozzarella cheese and Italian seasoning.
  • Starting from one long side, carefully roll the dough into a log shape and pinch the edges to seal it tightly.
  • Place the Stromboli seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the top with the beaten egg.

Baking

  • Bake the Stromboli in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 5 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Make sure your water is warm, but not hot. Letting the dough rise is essential for the fluffy texture. You can brush the top with melted butter after baking for an extra indulgent touch.
