Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour This forms the base of our delicious dough.
  • 1 teaspoon sugar A little sweetness helps the yeast activate and makes the crust golden brown.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances the flavor in every bite.
  • 1 packet active dry yeast The magic ingredient that helps your dough rise and become fluffy.
  • 3/4 cup warm water This activates the yeast (not too hot, just warm enough to bathe the yeast).
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Adds flavor and gives the dough a rich texture.

Filling Ingredients

  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded The gooey goodness that makes this Stromboli a hit.
  • 1 cup pepperoni slices A classic favorite that adds spice and flavor.
  • 1 egg for egg wash Gives the top a beautiful golden finish.
  • to taste Marinara sauce The perfect complement to your Stromboli, adding a zesty dip!

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it’s frothy.
  • In another large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  • Once the yeast mixture is ready, add it to the dry ingredients along with that olive oil. Stir until everything is combined and a dough begins to form.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for around 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about an hour.
  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Assembling

  • Once the dough has risen, turn it onto a floured surface and roll it out into a rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly across the dough and layer on the pepperoni slices.
  • Carefully roll the dough tightly from the long end, pinching the seams to seal it well.
  • With the seam side down, place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Brush the top with the beaten egg to create a golden crust.

Baking

  • Bake the Stromboli in the oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • Allow it to cool for a few minutes before slicing it up.

Notes

Make sure your water is warm, not hot; too hot can kill the yeast. Feel free to add in vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for extra nutrition.
