  • 2 pounds potatoes Starchy varieties like Russets or Yukon Golds work best.
  • 1 cup heavy cream Provides creaminess.
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese Can substitute with cheddar or mozzarella.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds flavor to the dish.
  • Salt and pepper, to taste Use according to preference.
  • Butter, for greasing For greasing the baking dish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Peel and slice the potatoes thinly.

Layering

  • In a greased baking dish, layer half of the potatoes.
  • Sprinkle half of the minced garlic, salt, and pepper over the potatoes.
  • Pour half of the heavy cream and sprinkle half of the cheese over the layer.
  • Repeat with the remaining potatoes, garlic, salt, pepper, cream, and cheese.

Baking

  • Bake for about 45 minutes or until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve hot paired with a simple green salad or grilled meat. For leftovers, let cool and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C).
