Ingredients
  

For the Sandwich

  • 2 slices Rye bread Choose a good quality bread for better flavor.
  • 4 ounces Corned beef Thinly sliced for easy layering.
  • 2 slices Swiss cheese Must be melted for the best experience.
  • 1/4 cup Sauerkraut Make sure to drain it well to avoid sogginess.
  • 2 tablespoons Thousand island dressing Freshly made enhances flavor; store-bought works too.
  • 1 tablespoon Butter For grilling, spread generously.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Spread butter on one side of each slice of rye bread.
  • Lay one slice of bread butter-side down in a skillet.

Building the Sandwich

  • Layer the corned beef on the bread.
  • Add Swiss cheese on top of the corned beef.
  • Place the drained sauerkraut on top of the cheese.
  • Spread thousand island dressing on the second slice of bread and place it dressing-side down on top of the sandwich.

Grilling

  • Turn the heat to medium and grill for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  • Press down with a spatula to meld the ingredients.
  • Flip the sandwich and grill the other side for another 3-4 minutes.

Serving

  • Remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it sit for a minute.
  • Slice it in half and serve with extra thousand island dressing on the side.

Notes

You can experiment with different types of cheese or add ingredients like shredded carrots for extra crunch. If bread browns too quickly, lower the heat for best results.
