  • 8 ounces Corned Beef, sliced Deli-style corned beef recommended for best results.
  • 4 ounces Swiss Cheese, sliced Quality cheese enhances the overall taste.
  • 1 cup Sauerkraut, drained Make sure to drain the sauerkraut well.
  • 1/4 cup Russian or Thousand Island Dressing Choose your favorite for a tangy punch.
  • to taste Butter For grilling the sandwich.

Preparation

  • Gather your ingredients, especially high-quality deli corned beef.
  • Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
  • Spread butter on one side of each slice of rye bread.
  • On the unbuttered side of two slices, spread Russian or Thousand Island dressing.
  • Layer corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut on top of the dressing.
  • Top with the other two slices of bread, buttered side up.

Cooking

  • Grill the sandwiches in the skillet for about 3-5 minutes on each side, until the bread is golden and cheese is melting.
  • Cover the skillet with a lid if the cheese needs more time to melt.
  • Once done, remove sandwiches and let them cool slightly before slicing in half diagonally.

Serving

  • Serve with extra dressing on the side, crispy potato chips, or a pickle.

Notes

Use a good non-stick skillet for even cooking, and don’t rush the grilling process for the best results. Feel free to experiment with different types of bread.
