  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar A bit of sweetness to balance the flavors.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Allows all the flavors to shine.

Filling Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Adds a lovely, deep sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped Nuts add a delightful crunch. Can swap for walnuts or almonds.
  • 1/2 cup raisins Brings a chewy sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon The aromatic spice that ties all the flavors together.

For the Egg Wash

  • 1 ea egg, beaten Gives the rugelach a beautiful golden finish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Whisk to mix well.
  • Add the softened butter and cream cheese to the dry mix and blend until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about an hour.

Filling and Rolling

  • In a bowl, mix together the brown sugar, chopped pecans, raisins, and cinnamon.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll the chilled dough into a rectangle about 1/8-inch thick.
  • Spread the filling evenly over the rolled-out dough.
  • Cut the dough into triangles and roll each triangle starting from the wide end.

Baking

  • Place the rolled rugelach seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Brush each rugelach with the beaten egg.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and flaky.
  • Allow to cool for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

If the dough is too soft, chill it for an additional 15-30 minutes. Ensure butter and cream cheese are softened for easier mixing. Consider adding vanilla extract for extra flavor.
