For the cake

For the glaze

  • 1 cup granulated sugar Adds sweetness to the glaze.
  • 1/4 cup water Helps dissolve the sugar to create a syrupy texture.
  • 1/4 cup butter Adds richness to the glaze.
  • 1/2 cup dark rum Enhances the rum flavor in the glaze.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).
  • Grease your bundt pan generously with butter or non-stick spray.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk to the creamed mixture, starting and ending with flour.
  • Stir in vanilla extract and 1/2 cup dark rum.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.

Baking the Cake

  • Bake for about 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Preparing the Glaze

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine granulated sugar, butter, and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  • Add in the 1/2 cup of dark rum and let it simmer for a few minutes until it thickens slightly.

Final Steps

  • Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then invert onto a plate.
  • While still warm, pour the rum glaze over the cake.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For best results, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature and don't rush the mixing process. For an even more festive touch, consider adding chopped nuts or dried fruits into the batter.
