Preparation

  • Thaw the frozen bread dough according to package instructions, typically taking a few hours.

Cooking the Filling

  • In a large skillet, heat cooking oil over medium heat and brown the ground beef thoroughly.
  • Add diced onions to the skillet and cook until they become translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Incorporate chopped cabbage and season with salt and pepper, allowing the mixture to wilt.

Assembling and Baking

  • Preheat oven according to the bread dough package instructions.
  • Roll out the thawed dough into rectangles, place filling in the center, fold over, and seal.
  • Place runzas seam-side down on a baking sheet and bake until golden brown, typically 15-20 minutes.
  • Allow them to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Serving

  • Serve warm, optionally with mustard or ketchup for dipping.

Notes

For extra crispy edges, brush with an egg wash before baking. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 days and reheated in the oven.
