  • 20 pieces Large button mushrooms Choose the freshest ones.
  • 1 pound Italian sausage Sweet or spicy, depending on preference.
  • 1 medium Onion Chopped finely.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 8 ounces Cream cheese Softened for easy mixing.
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese Grated for topping.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Gently clean your mushrooms with a damp cloth and remove the stems. Set aside the stems for later use.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  • Add the chopped onions and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until softened.
  • Remove from heat and let it cool briefly before mixing in the softened cream cheese and grated Parmesan cheese until well combined.
  • Stuff each mushroom cap generously with the sausage filling.
  • Place the stuffed mushrooms on a baking sheet, spaced apart.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until the tops are golden and the mushrooms are tender.
  • Let cool for a minute before serving warm.

Notes

For added flavor, cook the stuffing a bit longer in the skillet. Experiment with different cheeses and herbs for a twisted variation. Serve alongside a salad, garlic bread, or marinara sauce.
