Mushroom Preparation

  • 12 pieces medium-sized mushrooms The star of the dish!

Filling ingredients

  • 1 pound Italian sausage Choose mild or spicy, based on preference.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped Provides subtle sweetness.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Elevates the flavors.
  • 8 ounces cream cheese Adds creaminess to the filling.
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, freshly grated Adds sharp, nutty flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Gently wipe the mushrooms with a damp cloth to clean them, avoiding rinsing under water.
  • Carefully remove the stems of the mushrooms and set them aside.

Cooking the Filling

  • In a skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the Italian sausage until it’s brown and crispy (about 5-7 minutes).
  • Add the chopped onions and minced garlic, and sauté until the onions turn soft and translucent.
  • Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the cream cheese and Parmesan cheese until well combined.

Stuffing and Baking

  • Fill each mushroom cap with the sausage mixture, packing it in.
  • Arrange the stuffed mushrooms on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for about 20 minutes, until the mushrooms are tender and the filling is bubbly.
  • Let them cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding fresh herbs or red pepper flakes to the filling. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge.
