Main ingredients

  • 2 pounds Potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups Heavy cream Crucial for richness
  • 1 cup Grated cheddar cheese For topping
  • 1 Onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced Don't skimp on the garlic
  • To taste Salt and pepper For seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons Butter For greasing the baking dish
  • For garnish Fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Butter the bottom and sides of your baking dish.

Layering

  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish.
  • Add half the sliced onion and half the minced garlic on top.
  • Sprinkle salt and pepper on the layers.
  • Add half of the grated cheddar cheese.

Assembling

  • Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onions, and garlic.
  • Pour the heavy cream over the layered ingredients.

Baking

  • Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  • Bake for about 45 minutes.
  • After 45 minutes, remove the foil and sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
  • Bake for another 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For an even creamier texture, consider using a mix of cream and milk. Adding grated nutmeg adds a delightful flavor. To achieve a crispy topping, switch the oven to broil for the last minute while watching carefully.
