Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef Can substitute with turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 1 green or red bell pepper, diced Use your favorite color.
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 8 oz can tomato sauce
  • 2 Tbsp mustard
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar Adjust sweetness as desired.

For Serving

  • 4 buns Toasted for serving.
  • cheese and pickles Optional toppings.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Set a large skillet on the stovetop and heat it to medium-high.
  • When the pan is hot, add the ground beef, onion, and bell pepper. Brown and crumble the beef, then drain the excess fat if necessary.

Cooking

  • Add the cooked meat mixture to the slow cooker along with the remaining ingredients.
  • Stir to combine and place the lid on the slow cooker.
  • Cook on HIGH for 2 hours or LOW for 3 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Toast the buns and serve the Sloppy Joe mixture on top. Add cheese and pickles if desired.

Notes

For added flavor, you can substitute lean turkey or chicken for ground beef, and add chopped mushrooms or carrots for added nutrition. Adjust spice levels and sweetness to your preference.
