  • 1 lb dried green split peas
  • 2 cups ham steak (or 1 ham bone)
  • 3 stalks celery, diced
  • 2 large carrots, peeled and diced
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 leaves bay leaves
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp rosemary
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups water
  • Kosher salt to taste

Preparation

  • Rinse and drain split peas.
  • Combine peas, ham, veggies, and seasonings with broth and water in the slow cooker.

Cooking

  • Cook on high for 4-5 hours or low for 8 hours.
  • Remove bay leaves, season with salt, and stir.
  • For a thicker texture, blend part of the soup!

Notes

Serve hot with crusty bread or a warm roll. Add fresh herbs on top for extra flavor and color. Store cooled soup in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to three months.
