  • 4 cups Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced Thinly sliced for even cooking.
  • 2 cups Smoked ham, diced Can substitute with cooked chicken or turkey.
  • 2 cups Sharp cheddar cheese, shredded Can use mozzarella or gouda for variation.
  • 4 tablespoons Butter Melted for the sauce.
  • 1 cup Milk For creamier results, mix with heavy cream.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Thinly slice the Yukon Gold potatoes and layer half in a greased baking dish.
  • Add a layer of smoked ham on top of the potatoes, followed by a layer of sharp cheddar cheese.
  • Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, ham, and cheese.
  • In a saucepan, melt some butter and mix it with milk, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture evenly over the layers in the baking dish.
  • Cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm. Pairs well with a green salad or steamed vegetables. Can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage. Allow to sit after baking for better setting.
