  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is softened at room temperature.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Don’t overmix after adding the flour to keep cookies tender.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or colorful sprinkles Can substitute with nuts or other mix-ins.

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the creamed mixture.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips or sprinkles.
  • Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are light golden.
  • Cool on wire racks before serving.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze cookies in a wrapped container.
