Ingredients

For the meat mixture

  • 450 g ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 240 ml chicken broth
  • 30 ml steak sauce
  • 15 ml Dijon mustard
  • 30 g unsalted butter For sautéing vegetables.
  • 225 g mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • 140 g white onion, coarsely chopped
  • 5 ml Montreal steak seasoning
  • 16 g all-purpose flour To thicken the meat mixture.

For assembly

  • 8 regular-size burger buns, toasted
  • 60 g sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded You can substitute with other cheeses like provolone or Monterey Jack.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, steak sauce, and Dijon mustard. Set this mixture aside.
  • Heat a 30 cm skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook for 7–8 minutes, stirring frequently, until the beef is fully browned. Drain any excess fat and transfer the beef to a plate.

Cooking

  • In the same skillet, add the butter to any remaining drippings. Then add the sliced mushrooms, chopped onion, and Montreal steak seasoning. Sauté for 7–8 minutes until the onions are translucent and the mushrooms are golden.
  • Sprinkle flour over the vegetables and cook, stirring constantly, for 1–2 minutes until the flour is browned and gives off a nutty aroma.
  • Return the browned beef to the skillet. Pour in the chicken broth mixture and stir. Let it simmer for 3–4 minutes until the mixture thickens to a rich consistency.

Assembly

  • Spoon approximately 80 ml of the meat mixture onto the bottom of each toasted burger bun. Top each with 1 tablespoon of shredded Cheddar cheese, then cover with the top bun. Serve immediately.

Notes

Serve hot with extra toppings like pickles, lettuce, or other favorite condiments. Pair with fries or a simple salad for a complete meal. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat before serving.
