Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a cake pan.
  • In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  • In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs, almond extract, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, and mix until combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk, and mix until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  • Sprinkle sliced almonds on top.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Make sure your butter is softened for easy creaming with the sugar. Do not overmix the batter; mix just until ingredients are combined for a light cake.
