  • 1 cup bell peppers, chopped These add a delightful crunch and sweetness that complements the sauce beautifully.
  • 1 cup pineapple chunks (fresh or canned) Tangy and sweet, pineapple brings that distinct flavor we love!
  • ½ cup onion, chopped Onions provide a savory depth to balance the sweetness.

Sauce Ingredients

  • ½ cup sugar A key player for the sweet element in the sauce.
  • cup vinegar This adds the tangy kick that distinguishes your sweet and sour sauce.
  • ¼ cup soy sauce For that umami flavor that makes everything taste more magical.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch Essential for thickening the sauce, giving it that lovely, glossy finish.

Cooking Essentials

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil Needed to sauté the chicken perfectly.
  • salt and pepper to taste Just a dash of seasoning brings everything to life.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, mix ½ cup sugar, ⅓ cup vinegar, and ¼ cup soy sauce. Whisk until the sugar dissolves completely.
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large non-stick pan over medium-high heat.

Cooking

  • Add the chicken breast pieces to the hot oil, seasoning them with salt and pepper to taste. Cook until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Toss in the chopped onions and bell peppers, stir-frying for about 3-4 minutes.
  • Add the pineapple chunks and stir everything together for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with a little water to create a slurry. Add it to the sauce mixture while stirring.
  • Pour the sauce over the cooked chicken and vegetables. Stir gently until everything is beautifully coated and the sauce is thickened.

Serving

  • Serve the Sweet and Sour Chicken hot over your choice of cooked brown or white rice or with Chinese noodles.
  • Enjoy the special moments gathered around the dinner table!

Notes

For extra crunch, consider adding a handful of peanuts or cashews right before serving. If you want a little heat, add red pepper flakes or chopped chili. Fresh pineapple offers a more divine flavor compared to canned. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
