Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a medium pot, bring the 5 cups of water to a boil.
  • Once boiling, add the 3/4 cup of basmati rice and cook according to the package instructions.

Cooking Onions

  • In a skillet, melt 1/4 cup of butter over medium heat.
  • Add the 3 pounds of coarsely chopped sweet onions and sauté for about 10-15 minutes until soft and translucent.

Combining Ingredients

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice, sautéed onions, and 1 cup of half-and-half cream. Mix well.
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, until the edges are bubbling and the top is golden brown.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes
