Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2-3 pounds Beef round steak This cut is key to getting that melt-in-your-mouth texture.
  • 1-2 medium Onions, sliced Adds a lovely sweetness as they caramelize.
  • 2-3 cloves Garlic, minced Makes everything better!
  • 2-3 medium Carrots, sliced Adds sweetness and color.
  • 1 can Tomato sauce, about 15 oz Gives the dish a rich base.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Enhances the flavors.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Sprinkle a little salt and pepper on both sides of the beef round steak. Use a meat mallet or the bottom of a heavy pan to gently tenderize the steak.

Browning the Steak

  • In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the steak and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned.

Sautéing the Vegetables

  • Remove the steak from the skillet, then toss in the onions and garlic. Stir until they are translucent and fragrant, about 3 minutes.
  • Add the sliced carrots and cook for another 3-4 minutes.

Combining and Cooking

  • Return the beef round steak to the skillet with the sautéed veggies. Pour the tomato sauce over to cover everything.

Seasoning

  • Sprinkle a little more salt and pepper on top. Optionally, add fresh rosemary.

Slow-Cooking

  • Cover the skillet, reduce heat to low, and let it simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours. Alternatively, transfer to a slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours.

Checking for Tenderness

  • Use a fork to test the meat. If it pulls apart easily, it's done. If not, let it simmer longer.

Notes

For best results, don't rush the browning process. Experiment with other vegetables like bell peppers, peas, or zucchini. For a spicier kick, consider adding red pepper flakes.
