Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Beef round steak Tenderize before cooking.
  • 2 medium Onions, sliced
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 medium Carrots, chopped
  • 1 can (15 ounces) Tomato sauce Can be substituted with crushed tomatoes or marinara sauce.
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta, for serving Choose one based on preference.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Tenderize your beef round steak using a meat mallet or rolling pin.
  • Season the steak generously with salt and pepper and let it sit for a few minutes.

Cooking

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, add oil, and brown the steak for 4-5 minutes on each side.
  • Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add sliced onions, minced garlic, and chopped carrots. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until soft.
  • Place the steak back into the skillet, pour in the tomato sauce, and make sure the steak is covered with the veggies.
  • Bring to a gentle simmer, reduce heat to low, cover, and let cook for 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • Check for tenderness by pulling at the steak with a fork.
  • Serve hot over a choice of mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta with tomato sauce drizzled on top.
  • Optional: Garnish with fresh parsley for presentation.

Notes

Don’t rush the browning step for a better crust. Consider adding Worcestershire sauce to the tomato sauce for deeper flavor. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
