Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups tomato passata / puree OR 1 can (16 ounce) US tomato sauce Note 1: You can use either tomato passata or canned tomato sauce.
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper Adjust heat to taste.
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Place all ingredients in a saucepan. Mix well.
  • Simmer for 10 minutes on medium-low heat.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl, cool and serve with tacos or other Mexican dishes requiring a sauce.

Notes

Taco sauce is versatile; drizzle over tacos, use as a dipping sauce, or add to burritos and nachos. For storage, let the sauce cool completely, then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or freeze for later use.
