  • 8 slices Texas toast Thick, buttery toast
  • 1 pound ground beef Can substitute with turkey or chicken
  • 1 cup shredded cheese Cheddar or your choice
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Butter for toasting

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Add chopped onion, garlic powder, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir and simmer for about 5-10 minutes.

Toasting

  • Butter one side of each slice of Texas toast and place them butter-side down on a skillet or griddle.
  • Once lightly toasted, flip the bread.

Assembly

  • Spoon the beef mixture onto the unbuttered side and top with shredded cheese.
  • Cover the skillet until the cheese melts, then serve.

Notes

Serve Texas Toast Sloppy Joes hot. For extra flavor, add diced bell peppers or jalapeños to the beef mixture. To store, cool completely and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Freeze the beef mixture separately for later use.
