Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar You can substitute brown sugar for a richer taste.
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened Make sure your butter is softened to room temperature.
  • 2 eggs Can be replaced with 1/4 cup of applesauce or mashed banana each.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional) Can be substituted with dried fruits or nuts.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • If you are using chocolate chips, fold them into the batter.
  • Pour the batter into a greased 9x9 inch baking pan.

Baking

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let it cool before cutting into squares.

Notes

Best enjoyed warm or at room temperature, served plain, dusted with powdered sugar, or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Can be stored in an airtight container for 3-4 days or refrigerated for up to a week. Can also be frozen for up to three months.
