  • 1 medium Onion, chopped Provides sweetness and depth

  • 1 small Cabbage, shredded The star of the dish

  • 12 ounces Egg noodles or dumplings Comforting base for the dish

Preparation

  • Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  • In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onions for about 3 minutes until translucent, then add minced garlic and sauté for another minute.
  • Add the shredded cabbage to the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until wilted and tender.
  • Prepare the egg noodles or dumplings according to package instructions.
  • Drain the noodles or dumplings and add to the skillet, tossing gently to combine.
  • Chop the crispy bacon, add it back to the skillet with the butter, and stir until the butter melts and coats the ingredients.
  • Serve hot right from the skillet.

Notes

For extra crispiness, consider broiling the bacon. Add colorful bell peppers for sweetness. Serve with a dollop of sour cream for added creaminess.
