Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, chopped Preferably yellow onions for sweetness
  • 4 slices bacon Cook until crispy for best flavor
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic elevates flavor
  • 1 head green cabbage, shredded Can mix with red cabbage for color
  • 2 tablespoons butter Essential for rich flavor
  • 8 ounces egg noodles or dumplings Heart of the dish

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather Your Ingredients, making the cooking process feel organized.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside, keeping the grease.
  • Add the chopped onions to the skillet with the bacon grease and cook until golden and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Toss in shredded cabbage and stir well. Cook until it wilts down, around 5-7 minutes.
  • Prepare egg noodles or dumplings according to package instructions, usually with a little salt for flavor.
  • Once cabbage is wilted and noodles are cooked, drain the noodles and add them directly to the skillet with bacon, onions, garlic, and cabbage.
  • Crumble the cooked bacon and mix it in. Season to taste with salt and pepper, and add a pinch of paprika if desired.
  • Once everything is well mixed and heated through, serve it straight from the pan.

Notes

Taste as you go and adjust seasoning to your preference. For leftovers, keep the mixture a bit saucier to prevent drying out.
