Ingredients

For the dumplings and broth

  • 1 whole whole chicken Can use rotisserie chicken for quicker preparation.
  • 4 cups chicken broth Homemade broth is recommended for deeper flavor.
  • 2 cups vegetables (like carrots, celery, and onion) Feel free to add more or different vegetables.
  • 4 tablespoons butter Used for sautéing the vegetables.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder Ensure it is fresh for the best dumpling texture.
  • 2 cups flour Essential for creating dumplings.
  • 1 cup milk Used in dumpling dough.
  • Salt To taste.
  • Pepper To taste.

Instructions

Cooking the Chicken

  • Boil the chicken in a pot until fully cooked and tender, then shred the meat.

Preparing the Vegetables

  • In a separate pot, sauté onions, carrots, and celery until soft.
  • Add chicken broth to the vegetables and bring to a simmer.

Making the Dumplings

  • In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and milk to create a dough for the dumplings.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough into the simmering broth.
  • Cook until the dumplings are fluffy and cooked through.

Finishing the Dish

  • Stir in shredded chicken, adjust seasoning, and serve hot.

Notes

Let the chicken cool before shredding to avoid burns. Don’t overmix the dumpling dough; it should be a little lumpy for fluffy dumplings. This dish can be garnished with fresh herbs like parsley and pairs well with a simple side salad or crusty bread.
