  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup milk Can use any milk type preferred
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the topping

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water Make sure the water is hot before pouring

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cocoa.
  • Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth.

Assembly

  • Spread the batter into a greased baking dish or ramekins.

Topping

  • In another bowl, combine sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa.
  • Sprinkle over the batter—don’t stir.

Finalizing

  • Slowly pour hot water over the top. Do not stir—it will form its own sauce while baking.
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes until the top is set and crisp, but the inside remains gooey.
  • Let cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.

Notes

This cobbler pairs wonderfully with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on top. You can add chopped nuts or chocolate chips for extra texture and flavor. If you like a bit of spice, consider adding a pinch of cinnamon to the mix. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave to enjoy warm again.
