  • 1 teaspoon thyme Adds aromatic touch.
  • to taste salt and pepper Season gradually to your preference.

Preparation

  • Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Sauté chopped onion, carrots, and celery for about 5 to 7 minutes until softened.
  • Add the diced ham and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Stir in the split peas.
  • Pour in the chicken broth and add the diced potatoes.
  • Season with marjoram, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
  • Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 45 to 60 minutes.
  • Optionally, use an immersion blender to blend to your desired consistency.
  • Final taste test and adjust seasoning if needed.
  • Serve warm with crispy bread on the side.

Notes

Let the soup sit for a bit after cooking to deepen the flavors. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and reheated on low heat.
